ALL DRIVERS USED BRIGGS AND STRATTON FLATHEAD 5-HORSEPOWER MOTORS WITH GAS FUN POWER CARBS UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.
– Prior to 2004, all motors were 100% box stock 5hp flatheads.
– In parts of 2004-05 at Galletta’s and 2006-08 at Oswego Kartway, some drivers used OHV motors (Noted as OHV Outlaw sub-division. Supposedly agreed to be stock 5.5hp and 6.5hp, but later admitted – by the track operator and some former drivers to be as we suspected – they were stock Briggs Animals with shaved heads, which diminished the authenticity of the said driver’s accomplishments of win percnetage, as they drove with karts that had a SEVERE horsepower advantage over the regular 5hp flatheads with merely shaved heads and lighter weight – with some not even being much lighter at all). The argument created hard feelings between otherwise good competitors that would’ve had more fun if all motors were the same with the progressive weight-to-cam-power scale as we have used since the 2009 season.
– After 2005, all motors were stock with shaved heads.
– In late 2008 and from then onward, we allowed race cams on a progressive scale (bigger horsepower rating for heavier drivers, but SAME MOTOR TYPE). The system, designed by head mechanic Matt Stevens to help guys who weigh 10-50 lbs. more than some of their competitors, has produced a far more varied winner’s circle than any other karting division in Oswego, NY, and less complaints of “You’re too light!” vs. “You have too much horsepower!” that dominated the above noted OHV vs. Flathead battles.
– All are gas minus a few methanol test runs by two visiting drivers with pay track experience, who both failed miserably and further proved to us that we have the best karting club in terms of fairness (so many winners and competitive-to-the-wire races) and versitility (age, weight, track type) in the world. Period. Disagree? Come up. (Or puss out. Your call.)

TIE-BREAKERS:
Many drivers are tied in total feature wins. These are the tie-breakers.

1st tie-breaker: Galletta’s Greenhouse Karting Klassic or Oswego Kartway Classic win.
2nd tie-breaker: Used Flathead motor (less powerful) over OHV motor (handicapped; more powerful).
3rd tie-breaker: Total Points scored at Galletta’s Speedway.
4th tie-breaker: Total Points scored at Oswego Kartway.
5th tie-breaker: A win that was a tie, shortened feature (rain, track condition), or a B-Main / Non-winner’s-included feature win means less than an outright win.

Key:
t = Includes a “tie” for Feature Win.
* = Includes Oswego Speedway “Classic” Championship Win (Gas 1-WD Dirt Kart Division)
< = Includes “Non-Winner’s Only” Feature Win.
^ = Includes rain-shortened Feature Win.
> = Includes a 1/2-lap shortened Feature Win.
v = ’08 Oswego Kartway “Classic” Rain-Out Time Trail Win
Red = Majority of races in larger/illegal/since outlawed “OHV” 6.5hp and/or Stock Animal motor + mods. All others in FH 5hp.
Pictures = Raced in at least one race recently, or a videotaped event (like the Galletta’s Klassic).
Profiles = Regular Drivers and Klassic Competitors have driver profiles (Click on highlighted pictures).
# = Honorary points for racing in the early, 1990s Klassics.

* = During laps 150-200, Chris and Matt Stevens were having a torrid back-and-forth battle, passing each other back and forth for the lead in traffic. However, near the race’s conclusion, Matt Stevens made contact with a lapped kart, whcih brought out a caution. Chris was angry because he passed lapped traffic clean and got passed for it, while Matt did not and used the traffic to trap Chris for the pass. All things equal, it was going to be a fantastic battle until the end, and Matt bumped and ground his way to the lead on this occasion. Chris argued that this was unfair/illegal, that he also could’ve plowed the lapped kart out of the way and retained the lead (and in hindsight should’ve because the lapped kart in question never hesitated to bump him), but raced clean. Matt put himself in the back without argument, and Chris went on to win without a further challenge (2nd place Kyle Reuter had a flat RF tire, yet still finished 2nd, by itself an amazing feat). Chris’ win was disputed by multiple people (mainly because Matt is the main mechanic and track operator, and they felt sorry for him), and he vacated his victory and Ogie Stevens claimed it. Chris does believe however, that history will claim the win as his own. This is not the 1st nor last time Chris was disrespected, even though he is second only to Matt in all-time points and wins in all of Oswego’s karting leagues (not just Galletta’s), and the fact that this entire website, all videos and all records on it are thanks primarily to him – an oft underlooked contribution to the club and speedway, as nobody outside of a few people in Oswego County would even know us – a free backyard karting speedway – at all if not for this website’s content putting us out there for anybody in the world to see.

THE OSWEGO KARTWAY 1-WD GAS STOCKER 5HP (FUN POWER) vs. 6.5HP (ANIMAL) ANNUAL CHAMPIONS:

[All three years had Team Galletta’s 1-WD Gas Stock Fun Power Flathead 5hp engines (w/shaved heads)

vs. Team Outlaws 6.5hp OHV (actually stock Animal) motors], although the 2nd half of 2008 was FH-only.

** = Race led by Matt Stevens on final lap, when the 3rd turn corner-man threw the yellow flag, 2nd place Wes Stevens passed leader Matt Stevens at the stripe for the win according to the Oswego Kartway officials. According to Galletta’s officials, the race had no final lap, and the win was split by Matt and Wes Stevens. The disagreement about this last lap sealed a permanent rift between the track operator and Galletta’s, and they never raced at the Oswego Kartway again. Oswego Kartway also erased all records of us even being there to further their inane, illogical, and extremely long track record of disrespect, animosity and occasionally outright hositility towards our club despite the fact that they got the idea of dirt karting from us and we supported the track for it’s 1st three years with it’s largest weekly division from 2006-08 .

THE BIGGEST, LONGEST-RUNNING & MOST COMPETITIVE KARTING DIVISION IN NEW YORK STATE+!

How? Stats don’t lie, despite all the self-puffing at The Bu11$#!t Ring, who – despite being in their backyard and having their press – have less veteran Oswego Speedway drivers in their track history than we do in our club history. Between 2000-2012, approximately:

(1) Over 270 different drivers have been recorded racing in over 300 feature races (each between 30-200 laps each) between 2000-2013. That’s ONE CLASS, not a dozen. (2) Out of those entrants, over 50 different drivers have won out of around 300 features at Galletta’s (with a handful of ties). That’s more different winners in ONE CLASS than some local tracks have with all of their classes COMBINED.

– Just because Matt and Chris have more race experience and more wins than many of the drivers, that does not mean they have a monopoly on wins, and that nobody can win. On the contrary, it means the veterans are all capable, win a lot, and yet even rookies can win features due to the equalized arrive-and-drive karts, the help of the vets setting up their own karts, and the highly advanced handicapping system that gives anybody a shot, money or not. Many drivers compete for wins in their 1st year, and the longer they race, the more capable they become.

What. Unlike what some have said, this proves that the founders do not cheat to win (look at the averages… they won more because they’ve raced more, durhhh), as our win list is larger and more varied than every single other karting division in the area… several times over. This *is* the biggest and most competitive karting division in the area. Your $5,000 karts, $35+ memberships, $20-30 entrance fees can’t save your ass from the truth here, son. (This is not referring to anybody who has raced in our club, as they know. This refers to the karters who are in the area, and just flat wuss the f*** out. Yeah, you know it.)

The big boy karters race at Galletta’s anytime they can. The prissy-pussy wanna-be’s only wanna’ race at the pay tracks. Period. Think otherwise? Get your weak snob ass out to a GKC event and prove it.
